How do you reduce your #scope3 #emissions? Here are 13 concrete initiatives by leading companies to provide inspiration.
One of the biggest challenges facing sustainability professionals is, in my opinion, complexity.
And one of the many complex topics is scope 3. It includes 15 sub-categories and covers everything you purchase to make your products.
I therefore applaud it when studies like the below seeks to share very concrete case studies on what leading companies are doing.
But it's still hard to get simplify and go beyond the buzzwords.
So I tried to simplify and boil it down to 13 concrete initiatives across 4 main themes.
Now, these are not all equal in importance. In fact, some of them are still quite fluffy and focused on data and information without any real reductions exemplified.
My favorite one is #7 with examples from Schneider Electric and Microsoft; this is simply the most pragmatic and high impact item I think all companies should be working on.
When it comes to it, scope 3 reduction can be largely simplified into the 4 themes:
1️⃣ Redesign your products.
2️⃣ Work with your suppliers to reduce their emissions, or find more emissions efficient suppliers.
3️⃣ Introduce more circularity in your value chain.
and 4️⃣ , improve logistics between the different value chain steps.
What do you think? Any other examples for initiatives companies have taken to reduce their scope 3 emissions?
