Automotive industry is regressing on sustainable procurement

Writer: Thomas Buch AnderssonThomas Buch Andersson

Dissapointed to see the #automotive industry regressing on their #sustainablesupplychain efforts in this recent report by Capgemini.

According to the study, the number of companies deploying sustainability initiatives declined by 9-11 % points between 2022 and 2023, while total amounts invested by #suppliers declined by 17%.

Capgemini blames the global turmoil and the need to prioritize continuity of operations and topics like quality, geopolitical risk, cost and resilience, over sustainability.

That's 💩 . While buyers indeed need to be pragmatic during supply chain shortages, there is no reason for sustainability initiatives to be discontinued.

The weight sustainability has on the scorecard can change, but sustainability should always be on the scorecard. No excuses.
