Blockchain is not the silver bullet to traceability

#Blockchain is not the silver bullet to #traceability.

It simply doesn't solve the core issue – getting data on the chain in the first place.

Blockchain is a technical solution for decentralised ownership and sharing of information.

That's great (and can also be solved with other technologies), and is honestly a "nice-to-have" as it doesn't solve the core problem:

Getting data on the chain in the first place.

So the real question is: How do we get participants to share data for traceability purposes?

Honestly, there is no magic bullet (I'll discuss different approaches in a future post).

What we need to optimize for is reducing friction on the supplier as much as possible. I.e. time, cost, and complexity to provide data, uncoordinated and duplicate data requests from buyers, etc.

Industry collaborations across tiers is also powerful, and there's some great initiatives out there.

Finally, and I cannot stress that enough: open data. It’s essential that participants doesn’t get stuck in yet another data silo.

Takeaway is the same with AI. Blockchain is a tool, it's not a silver bullet.

I'd love to hear what your experiences with traceability have been? - what worked, what didn’t work?
