Flights vs. trains for commuting

Trains for business communiting is having a revival and for good reasons!

I'm on the morning train to Stockholm for the Mastercard Massiv final, and I'm blown away by the value prop.

Let's break it down:

It's not cheaper, in fact it's a little bit more expensive, maybe +€25 return incl. transport to station vs airport and a cheap upgrade to the quiet department of the train.

It's slower, but not by alot; plane would be maybe 4-4.5hr door to door for plane vs 5-5.5 hrs for train, pending many factors and risk tolerance for missing the flight! 😅

It's way more comfortable - less stress and at least double the personal space.

Most importantly, I get 4-5 hrs of uninterrupted work in!

On those factors alone, I'd pick it, but the reason this is important is that there's a whopping 99.9% carbon footprint difference: ~300kg CO2 versus ~0.2 kg CO2.

I was honestly quite skeptical, and have been guilty of taking the plane to Stockholm many times before.

So to anyone like me, give it a shot, and let's kill the stigma for traveling on trains! (and maybe put more pressure on making the European rail network great again 😉)
